Installing Virtual Drumline 2.5 on Leopard

This post is being modified on May 25th, 2008 to reflect a more convenient way to install VDL on Leopard.

To clarify, VDL works fine on Leopard (version 2.5.1 is officially supported), but the problem is with the installer that ships on the DVD.

**To rectify this problem, we have a new VDL 2.5 Leopard installer available at:
https://www.tapspace.com/updates/

Once you have installed VDL 2.5 using this installer, you must drag the three large .nkx files (001.nkx, 002.nkx, and 003.nkx) from your VDL DVD into your VDL 2.5 folder. Without these files in place, your VDL sounds will not properly load.

Once you've launched Kontakt Player 2 and confirmed proper loading of VDL sounds, it is recommended you update to VDL 2.5.1, which will ensure complete Leopard compatibility by updating the Kontakt Player to version 2.2.4. This update will be available for registered VDL 2.5 users by using the NI Service Center program in your Applications folder.
Is this a necessary update if we've used the previous patch and everything's up and running?
Thanks for asking this Keith as I realize that may not have been clear. No. This update is not necessary if you're already up-and-running on Leopard. It's merely an ";officially supported"; patch as opposed to the prior workaround hotfix described previously.
Great.  Thanks Jim.
This is the third place on the TapSpace website where I have found instructions on how to install under leopard and also the third different patch.  Which one is correct???????

I have spent 6 hours between last night and this morning trying to make this program install.  It now says it is installed but when I try to use it (as a plug-in in Finale 2008) it tells me that the ";samples are missing.";

After working with it for an hour last night I went to the website and began poking around.  If this is a known issue, why did no one tell me when I purchased it on friday???  That would have been the professional way to deal with it.
The first patch I found (from the FAQ) claimed to solve the install problems under leopard, but only installed the service center, not VDL.  The next page I found sent me to the link below the one in this post.  It almost worked, but would stop with 168 files left to install.  Then I found this one and it seemed to work, but all of my ";samples are missing.";

Right now I am ready to the throw the program out the window and NEVER purchase another tapspace product again.
Dude, first, calm down:)

I think we all at one time or another had that moment where what should have taken 10 minutes ends up taking several hours, usually for reasons we don't understand.
Everyone on this forum that has leopard (and I'm sure there's a lot) had to deal with this and it worked out for everybody in the end!
Jim is busy at TMEA right now, I'm sure when he gets back he'll work his magic and have you good to go. Trust me, it will all work out. However, if you do decide to chunk it out the window just let me know where you plan on dumping it so I can swing by and pick it up:)
For some reason the installers aren't installing ANY of my .nkx files.  I have all of the .nkc files.  I am drag and dropping over the nkx files now, do you think that might work?
If you check this out, https://www.tapspace.com/forums/index.php?topic=2163.0 ... Look to step 9.

Yes. It's one of the older installers that NI tried putting out that didn't work quite well (maybe NI never fixed this bug during the installer updates). The location of these files needs to be exactly where stated. Hope this works! Peace...
Real nice.

If the Kontakt Player installer patch didn't automatically install your .nkx files, then copying them from your DVD into the Virtual Drumline 2.5 folder should do the trick. Please realize that Tapspace does not make the Kontakt Player or its installer. These items are made by Native Instruments, which is where I think your beef would be more appropriately directed. To their credit, they have worked to ensure Leopard compatibility, which most reasonable Leopard users have been grateful for. You may contact Native Instruments at: http://www.native-instruments.com.

Jim,

I am very sorry about my earlier posts.  I was actually logging in to apologize and ask that my posts be removed when I discovered that you had (rightfully) deleted my account.  Please accept my humblest apologies.  I was so excited after your clinic at TMEA that I drove home early from the convention and tried to install it last night.  I probably should have posted on the forum as soon as I  ran into trouble, but I thought I could figure it out on my own (with help from the FAQ and reading through the forum).  By the time I posted I was so angry with myself for not being able to figure it out that I was lashing out at everyone and everything around.  In the future I will do my best to take your advice and walk away from the problem for a few minutes before posting.  (By the way, the problem was in fact that the installer was not installing any of the .nkx files after manually copying those over everything seems to run fine).

Once again, all I can offer are my most sincere apologies for acting like a royal ***.  I am very sorry.  Please delate my previous posts.

I sorta having the same problem here. I've got the program installed.

I open up the KontakPlayer2 and try to load sounds, it states that the samples cannot be found. Now I looked for them manually and I physically see them, but they are un-selectable. In my VDL2.5 folder I see ";Virtual Drumline 2.5_002.nkc"; I see you talking about these nkx files. I've dragged them in the folder as I am typing.

I run the most recent Leopard.

I've got to eat, I'll edit this message to later to add more info.

EDIT=============

Dragging the nkx files into the Tapspace folder worked. I'm just wondering why the nkx files did not originally take during installation?
Glad you were successful rickofavon. The .nkx files would normally copy automatically install, but now with the Leopard patch, it's not specific to VDL, but all sorts of other Kontakt Player 2 libraries. I realize it's not optimal or all that intuitive, but for now, that's the best solution we are able to provide through NI.
