Ok so i had VDL2 and everything worked great, but i bought the 2.5 upgrade, and i uninstalled 2 when I got 2.5

I am using WinXP and Finale 2008. my problem is that the install goes fine, but i can't copy the .dll files into the Finale 2008 VST folder because:

";Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.";

Well i dont think its in use, no idea if its write protected i'm just following install instructions, and there is definitely room, especially now that i took VDL2 off. I can drag the files from the Kontakt2 folder to the Finale08 VST one but it actually moves them out of the Kontakt2 folder, so now they aren't in there anymore, but they are in the Finale08 VST plugin folder. I guess it is good they are in there, but the problem is Finale isn't recognizing them so this player still does not come up in the VST setup (in finale) just Absynth 4 (2 instances for some reason) and SmartMusic SoftSynth. In the Finale08 VST folder i cannot copy, delete, move, or basically do anything to any of the files or i get that same 'access is denied error' again. i can't touch anything, can't copy from it.

i have heard to login as administrator or something like that, but i dont know how to do that. I am on a personal laptop (once again no problems before with 08 and VDL2) but I dont know what the administrator password is, or even how i could find out what it is.

Can anybody please help me, i have tried to reinstall several times and the same thing happens everytime, I just have no idea what to do...

It sounds like the Program may still be running?�� Make sure that Finale is completely closed.�� If it is completely closed, try the following:

1.�� Are you logged in as an administrator?
2.�� Right click on the folder for FINALE VST and then choose Properties
3.�� Choose the Security Tab and is this folder locked or do you have DENY for the write option here?

Also make sure you are not actually moving the dll files out of the folder.  They must be COPIED.  And this  might actually be the cause.

Well thanks so far Coach but i answered a few of those questions you had already, which is why I'm still stuck. I am not in as an administrator, because i dont know the password (this is my computer btw), and i have no idea how to find out what it is, which is my problem with any programs not running right. So if thats step one, then I already can't see the Security Tab in the Properties window. And like i said, at this point its not even letting me copy, it just moves them. Is there anyway you can help me find out how i can get my administrator password so i can login as that and be able to do this? that seems to be my biggest problem, i dont even remember setting a password. i have tried every possibility i can think of, every password i ever used, generic answers, blank, still no luck.

i installed under my user account, i didnt have the admin account active i guess.. i got on as admin now, but i can't access anything. do i have to reinstall everything from the admin login?

Administrator is automatically active on the account XP was installed on.  There's no need to actually log in as ";administrator.";  Just by looking at Control Panel > User Accounts you can see if it's administrator or not. 

ctrl+c = copy
ctrl+v = paste

i am way past the point of knowing how and where to copy and paste, i just cannot actually paste, because the computer is not letting me access the folder that way. i can open finale with no problems from quick launch/folder/desktop/etc, but i just get that error when i try to paste the .dll to the VST folder. i can even play the comp through Absynth 4 with no problems. so my only option with VDL2.5 becomes dragging the .dll from one folder to another, and unlike most times it actually is moving it out of the original folder, which normally just copies. which is why i came to see if anybody knew why i cant just copy...

even logged in as administrator its basically just a new windows login, and i cannot access anything, its actually worse because most files are just empty icons, waiting to give me errors, unless i sign back in to my normal user account and its all there. back to square one. unless a new install under the administrator account could do it, i am just going to have to backup everything and do a clean install of windows because i am having worse problems trying to reinstall adobe products, and its my only option to make everything back to normal.

like i said, i appreciate the help from everyone, but i guess i just need to wipe the comp and do a clean install of windows and all my programs.

If you drag a file to another folder on the [i]same[/i] drive, it will move it.  If you drag a file to a folder on a [i]different[/i] drive, it will copy it.

It sounds like some permission error might have happened.  You can right click a folder, select properties, and uncheck the ";Read-only"; box if it is checked and try it again.

You can also boot into Windows in Safe Mode by hitting F8 just before the XP splash screen comes up.  This will also override most permissions and move files around.

i see.. i have tried from another drive and got that error. i uncheck the read only and it doesnt do anything, same error.. i try afgter unchecking it and its back as soon as i hot apply or ok. i will try safe mode, but i think i'm just going to backup everything and wipe my comp, do a clean install of windows and all my apps.. that'll fix it for sure. a few weeks ago i got wiped by a virus, and got my comp restarted (but not wiped clean) and have had errors since.. so.. if safe mode wont help i'll wipe it and start over.
