advice

I have OS X 10.4.11 and 1 GB 667MHz Ram
As far as the VDL Library, I have what came with Sib 5.1 and the template
from Tapspace.com.

Do I need to purchase any Tapspace software to make any of this work?  What would you experts recommend?

I thought I did everything according to Mr. Casella's tutorial videos.  When I downloaded the template, the .xml was being run with OmniOutliner (mac).
I get the error message:

File not found:  Please check if the library is installed correctly.

You don't actually open the xml file.  Copy it to the correct folder and leave it alone.  You open the .sib file and add the instruments you want.

You do not need the template if you do not have the full version of VDL:2.5.  The included Tapspace sounds in Sibelius 5.1 are already mapped within the program.

Exactly.

The tutorial videos I posted are for users of Virtual Drumline 2.5. It sounds like you don't have that, but rather, you have what's called Sibelius Sounds Essentials (which contains only a few sounds from VDL). The VDL template and sound set aren't necessarily setup to work with Essentials.

If you're only using Essentials, you'd want to make sure that you have ";Sibelius Essentials"; set as your sound set in the Playback Devices window.
I am pretty sure I have 2.5.  I could be wrong ( I usually am).

When I select Kontakt Player to the active sound devices, I am able to select from a drop down menu which includes VDL 2.5 and Tapspace VDL 2.5.  I have the Tapspace selected and saved....

I apologize for my ignorance about this stuff and greatly appreciate everyone's comments.

From what I can tell, you are wrong. Don't worry. This has confused other people as well. :)

What you are selecting are called ";sound sets."; Sound sets are not the actual virtual instrument libraries themselves. In order for those sound sets to work properly, you must also have the product that they correspond to.

So when you set your Kontakt Player to a sound set of ";Tapspace Virtual Drumline 2.5";, that doesn't mean you actually have Virtual Drumline 2.5. As you already mentioned in your initial post, you have ";what came with Sibelius."; This is called Sibelius Sounds Essentials, and so when setting the sound set for your Kontakt Player, you'd want to set it to ";Sibelius Essentials."; Without the actual version of VDL 2.5 installed on your machine, setting your sound set to VDL 2.5 isn't going to get you anywhere. Which is why you're seeing the ";file not found"; message. It's because you don't actually have VDL 2.5. The VDL 2.5 sound set will only work if you have the full version of VDL 2.5.
