Sound set "Tapspace VDL 2.5" not shown

Hello everyone.

My name's Ryan, I've got a PC operating Windows XP.  3 GB Ram.  Audigy Soundblaster.

I installed VDL 2.5 and Sibelius 5, then upgraded to 5.1.  When I start Sibelius and open up my playback devices; under available devices I have KontactPlayer 2.  To the right, under type it is listed as Kontact.  I noticed in the tutorial screencast that under type it specified AU or VST.  I do not have either of those specifications describing the type of available device.

When I load an instance of KontactPlayer2 the Tapspace Virtual Drumline 2.5  is not listed as an available soundset in the scroll down menu.  All of the other sound sets are there such as Garritan Concert & Marching Band, Sibelius Essentials, as well as the Virtual Drumline 2.5 that comes with Sibelius 5.

What do I need to do so that Sibelius 5 will use the tapspace library as a VST plug-in?  Or am I even on the right track?  Is the missing link a virtual midi cable?
Hi Ryan,

AU stands for ";Audio Units."; It's a Mac thing, so don't worry about the fact that you're not seeing it on your PC.

If you see KontaktPlayer2 as an available device, you're good to go there, so don't worry if your window doesn't look exactly like the one in the screencasts.

Regarding the Tapspace Virtual Drumline 2.5 sound set, that will appear once you've properly placed the Tapspace Virtual Drum Line 2.5 v1.0.5.xml file in the ";Sounds"; folder. This XML file is actually the sound set, and you get it when you download the VDL/Sibelius 5.1 template from tapspace.com/updates. Also included in this download is a Readme file. In this Readme file, check page 4 which will tell you exactly where to place the XML (sound set) file so that it will appear when you relaunch Sibelius 5.1.

Let us know if this gets you on track. Have fun!
Hello forum -

My name is David Carbone and I've got an Imac operating Leapord.

I have recently upgraded to Sibelius 5.1 and VD 2.5. This is a new computer and I have yet to run these two programs together. After following the instructions in the readme file included with the template, Sibelius is not listing Tapspace Virtual Drumline 2.5 as an option in the Playback Devices menu.
I have followed Jim's screencast and placed the xml file in the Sounds folder. (I had to create the folder)

Any ideas on what is preventing me from moving forward?

Dave
Keep in mind that ";Tapspace Virtual Drumline 2.5"; is merely the sound set that should be selected. Before you can select it, you'll first need to activate at least one instance of Kontakt Player 2. I think is what the problem turned out to be for David. It's an easy mistake to make when you're first getting started with this new system.
Yes, the sound set will only show up on the right side of the Playback Devices dialog, in the drop-down menu:

Another thought: if you are looking at a score from an older version of Sibelius, you will simply need to import VDL 2.5 under the ";House Styles"; option of the menu. Then you can select it as the Sound Set under ";Active devices:"; as displayed by Hugh. Be sure to select Tapspace Virtual Drumline 2.5 and not Virtual Drumline 2.5. There's a difference.

In addition, Sibelius will then allow you to select voices for the 5.1 template under the ";Create";, ";Instruments"; in the menu options.

Regarding not seeing KP2 as an available device in Sibelius, you probably don't have the plugin properly installed. Check this post at Sibelius's website, or contact Sibelius support for assistance.

Wow, please clean up the grammar. Looks like you need to rescan your virtual instruments. Go to Play>Playback devices>audio engine options and hit rescan. If that doesn't work then you will need to make sure that your VST plugins file is in the right place. Check out the following from the Sibelius Help Site.

Then check everything is correctly set up in Sibelius by doing the following:

  * Go to Play, Playback Devices and click Audio Engine Options.
  * From there make sure you have 'Use Virtual Instruments and effects' ticked. Also make sure you have something in each field for Interface, Buffer size etc...
  * The path to the VSTPlugins folder needs to point to the folder where the KontaktPlayer2.dll is installed. The default is:
   C:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\VSTPlugins
If this is wrong please click the 'Browse' button and set it correctly.
  * Now go to the VSTPlugins directory (default listed above) and check the KontaktPlayer2.dll is in there - if not please reinstall the Sibelius Sounds Essentials library, and during the installation make sure you select the correct VSTPlugins folder.
  * After checking the above please restart Sibelius.

If you have any more problems please go to your VSTPlugins folder (default: C:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\VSTPlugins) and delete KontaktPlayer2_8out.dll and KontaktPlayer2_16out.dll.
Then restart Sibelius.
