I just installed a new hard drive on my mac. I installed Sibelius 5.1 and installed Virtual Drumline 2.5 and updated it to 2.5.1. I went to playback devices to create a device using Virtual Drumline and it says that Virtual Drumline cannot be loaded. I followed all of the directions and nothing seems to be working. What do I need to do to be able to use Virtual Drumline on my new hard drive? This is very frustrating!
Is the first install of Sib and VDL? Or did you have it on another hard drive already. This will help as you may just need to follow Jim's Tutorial on installing with Sib 5.1 and VDL 2.5. (https://www.tapspace.com/support/tutorials/Sib51.html) Try that first, and repost if it doesn't.

I had already downloaded virtual drumline on my last hard drive. I did not uninstall or anything. I just tried to install it on my new hard drive. Is it going to work or do I need some new info regarding this?

Did you drag the .nkc and .nkx files over to the new drive from the dvd?

I am right now but I see that it is trying to install 4 gigabytes of info. Isn't that what the virtual drumline installer already did? We are talking about a mac right?

I discovered that I hadn't updated from Sibelius 5.0 to 5.1 yet. I have been updating so much software on my new hard drive. I now have access to Virtual Drumline however, the template for Sibelius 5.1 says that I am missing about 21 sounds. How can that be? I have loaded everything from the disks and internet as told. The template looks weird too. It only has a slapstick. Is that correct?

Yes that's correct. The slapstick is what will come up. You build your score like you want it. Don't delete the slapstick unless, of course, you intend to use it.
By the way, I bet I downloaded stuff 5 or 6 times until I finally figured out that I was the problem. Just can't live without human error. ;)

It sounds like you may not have carefully viewed the tutorial videos yet. I'd really recommend this as it should address most of what you need. Try to be patient so you have a better sense of how you'll be working. As dsleath pointed out, the videos can be viewed at: https://www.tapspace.com/support/tutorials/Sib51.html
