**Read this before updating to Sibelius 5.2**

Greetings,

Today, Sibelius released the 5.2 update. We are asking all Virtual Drumline users currently engaged in projects running in 5.1 to please hold off on this update for a short while. Certain items in the way Sound IDs have been reformatted will cause the prior, 5.1 Tapspace VDL sound set not to function properly and a proper template/soundset update is in the works and should be available soon.

Thanks for your patience, and please spread the word to any other VDL users you may know who are currently working within Sibelius 5.1.
Is there a way to undo the update, if a friend of a friend of someone accidentally installed it?  I surely wouldn't make that mistake, but he wanted me to ask.

Robby
Simplest way would probably be to uninstall Sibelius and RE-INSTALL using the 5.1 Update Installer.
I'm not sure about this. With no guarantees, here's a way he may still be able to work with scores from 5.1 if he makes a copy of the sound set that comes with the 5.1 template, then making sure he's using that sound set from within 5.2. Again, we can't guarantee this will work seamlessly for him, but it may be worth a try if he can't revert to 5.1.

Now that 5.2 is out, I'm unsure if the 5.1 updater is even available any longer.
Thanks for the help, I'll see if I can get it working.  I mean I'll see if my friend can get it working. :)

I should have read the message board before jumping in.

It looks to me like the 5.1 update is no longer available to download off of the Sibelius updates page. If you still have the 5.1 installer on your hard drive, you can uninstall 5.2 then reinstall 5.1 again, like Justin said.

OR...

Use this unofficial sound set for now with your 5.1 scores (in 5.2):

That's OK, you probably won't be the only one.

Let us know if neither of the above gets your buddy going again.

This got me going again for the most part.  The cymbal line sounds aren't correct (sounding general MIDI) and the ";puffies"; sound as mallets.

BTW...

Mac G5
Sibelius 5.2
VDL2.5.1 + ";unofficial"; xlm

The Sibelius 5.0 to 5.1 upgrade is no longer linked to on the Sibelius website, but the upgrade file for the Mac version is still on their server. It can be found at:

http://www.sibelius.com/download/software/mac/Sibelius51UpdateEnglish.dmg

Just thought this info might be useful to those Mac users that accidently upgraded to 5.2.

Happy VDLing!
After some searching, I found the windows installer for anyone who may need it...

Good news...  I checked the version number on my Sibelius disk which was 5.1.  I'm back running smoothly!
Jim-

Is there an APPROXIMATE time-line to expect the updates from Tapspace to allow the Sib 5.2 upgrade?  I'm now experiencing technical difficulties with Sib 5.1 and they recommend the update.  I'm quite torn between wanting VDL and my other technical deficiency.

Thanks!!

Steve
Hi Steve,

It's hard to say at this point. It shouldn't be nearly as long as the 5.1 process took, but there are still several areas being investigated to ensure things work properly. Don't hold me to this, but hopefully a few more weeks and we should have things sorted out.

What problems are you having with 5.1? Perhaps we could look at a workaround for the time-being.

Thanks for your patience.
My problem is that Sib wont completely close when I exit the program, which means I have to reboot to run Sibelius again.  It is just sitting there in the Task manager mocking me.  I've since learned that the problem may NOT be fixed in 5.2, so now my problem just got deeper.  One post on the Sibelius forum indicates there may be a problem with certain M-Audio cards.  I use the Delta Audiophile 2496.

Anyway, I've tried several programs that are supposed to ";kill"; processes in Windows (Vista 32-bit), but none will kill Sibelius.  Apparently, it is immortal (HA!).

Anyone else have any thoughts?
Greetings,

I just purchased VDL 2.5 last week and recently had a crisis with my computer after accidentally moving my Library folder around! My computer is back to normal now and I was about to install VDL 2.5 when I saw this post.

I already updated my sibelius to 5.2, but I have not installed VDL 2.5 yet. Does this issue still pertain to me?

Thanks!
Downgrade back to 5.1 before installing vdl and you should be fine
