Trying to figure out VD 2.5 with Finale 2007c. I have a few questions.

I am working with the Percussion Map Designer in the Staff Attributes part of Finale. I do the option ";view only named notes."; In the bottom right corner of PMap Designer, I select Highlighted Notes Only for ";Notes to Use";. Then I go in and select using the asterick(*), which sounds I want to use. I edit the noteheads and the staff position of the channels I want to use. I am all set, but when I close the box it goes back to all of its default settings, which goes back to all of its funky settings that don't make any sense. I tried using the Snare channel off of VD 2.5, and it's been giving me some trouble. Any suggestions?
Are you working with the 2007 template or are you creating your own score?
Are you entering notes with a MIDI keyboard or with just the mouse?

If you have the Percussion Map Designer open when you go to another program...or if another application comes to the front accidentally, this will reset what has been done. You should click OK and then get out of the Editor before going to something else. This seems to be a known issue with Windows Finale Percussion Designer.
Hope that helps....

At the moment, I was on the Vd template, but I was using my own score earlier.
I don't have a MIDI keyboard

When working with your own score you would need to create your own maps. check out Scott's post above for some additional Windows help when working with the Percussion Map Designer.
Working without a MIDI keyboard means you will need to make sure that notes are entered to the correct pitch so that they read as mapped with the template. All of the VDL drum sounds are mapped to specific pitches. Using Simple Entry and placing notes on the staves is not enough to get the correct playback.
