Ram issues

Hi, I just had a quick queston. I have a hp laptop that has AMD Turion 64x2 technology (processor) and 2GB of memory. Would it make my sibelius and vdl run faster to upgrade to 4gigs of ram? Would it be effective at all? I ask this because when i'm playing a score back sometimes it skips and runs kind of sluggish. So can anyone help me please?
Are you trying to playback really large scores with a lot of instrumentation? Is so, then yes you'd probably see some good improvements with more RAM. If you're just playing battery scores with a handful of instruments, then it probably won't make much of a difference.

There are some other things you can look at to increase performance, including, but not limited to, cleaning up your PC, use the ";lite"; versions of the VDL instruments, and adjusting (increasing) your latency values in the Kontakt Player.
Thanks for the fast reply, I'll try those and see what happens.
I too was experiencing the problems you wrote about. I tried cutting down voices and using lite versions mentioned above but when you have a Full Wind Score and Full Percussion together, it just isn't going to happen. I did upgrade to 4 Gigs of Ram and I have not had a problem since.

I hope that helps!
It's worth mentioning which OS you use.  2 GB with XP will perform better than 2 GB with Vista.  If you are using the standard 32-bit versions of both, you are limited to 1.5 GB of RAM per program, and 3 GB total.  You could install 16 GB of RAM in your computer, but only 3 would show up.

Only by using the 64-bit versions can you take full advantage of that added RAM, but then you have the issue of finding 64-bit drivers for your hardware.
I'm using vista. So if I get that 16 GB would it help the performance issues I'm having?
Re-read J Mattson's previous post. I think it pretty much answers your question.
