I have seen the tutorial, read the posts, even bought the T-Shirt, and it still doesn't work. It should work when it plays back, but it doesn't. When I went into the mixer, the staff was still linked to the channel of the previous instrument. Could Sibelius just be lazy for me?
Please give a step-by-step description of what you're trying to do with all the details and exact settings included.

I'm writing the percussion parts in a full band score. I have a Marimba (Hard MW) changing to a Concert Bass Drum. I highlighted the measures to be changed and included two previous measures to make sure it had time and it doesn't playback or make sounds when entered.
I think I found the problem. I didn't put staccato dots over the notes to dampen them. Checking these noteheads and learning the articulations are going to take some getting used to.

Glad to hear you were able to find your solution. Most users who may be used to the former way of doing things in Sibelius 4 find it helpful to keep a copy of the ReadMe file open in the background so they can refer to it while they're writing. I know that's been helpful for me. There are actually some times where this new method can make certain things quicker to enter without a MIDI keyboard, just place regular notes on the correct line or space, then quickly change the noteheads using the keyboard shortcut. Getting used to certain articulations that affect playback is likely the most difficult learning curve for most folks, but luckily the ReadMe is very thorough, and super quick to search through by typing in keywords into your PDF viewer's ";search"; feature.

Mapping Diagrams:
You could also print out individual pages of instruments you use often, go to Kinko's and have them blow it up onto a page that is really really big and use it like wallpaper next to your computer. I believe they can print up to 48"; wide. ;D

The 48' wide instrument page, the drumline geek's living room wallpaper :)
