Before Install, Any Heads Up?

Hello,

I recently purchased  Sibelius 5 and VDL 2.5. I haven been reading around the Forum and FAQ, and noticed some talk about the 5.2 update and waiting until something  that fixes that comes out.  Does that affect me if i haven't used VDL before the 5.2 update came out?

And is there any other hints i should know before i actually get to installing?

Thank you,

Andy

The 5.1 template (and sound set) won't function quite right in 5.2 so, yes - this will affect you. The 5.2 template is just about ready though, so if you can wait for just a few days for that, we should have something for you to sink your teeth into. In the meantime, there's no reason you can't install. After installing and registering, I'd recommend you get the VDL 2.5.1 maintenance update which you can either download from NI, or via the NI Service Center program that installs with VDL. Thanks for your patience!
Jim,

Thank you, I can't wait to see what all the buzz is about with VDL!

Depending on where you bought your copy from, You may have Sibelius 5.1 or 5.2.  Most likely you have 5.2 but it never hurts to check when you install it. However, if the tapspace superheros are close to finishing the new template, it doesn't really matter.

If you're new to Sibelius, the instructional videos that it comes with are great to find out the simple differences in how the program works vs the other notation programs.

If you're new to VDL, check out these videos  http://tapspace.com/support/tutorials/Sib51.html  . They are a huge help with explaining how VDL integrates with Sibelius 5.

Take care!
Charlie,

I bought both Sibelius and VDL from Tapspace.

Thanks for the links, I am used to finale and i hope the transition isn't too rough :)

I found my transition from Finale to Sibelius much like my transition from PC to mac. I was used to doing everything in a very technical manner, then after the switch things were so easy that it wasn't intuitive to what I had gotten used to!!! Watch the videos and keep your sibelius reference guide (the big pretty one) on your desk for awhile :) You'll be very happy after the learning curve sets in. I know I am :)
We just got Sibelius 5.2 with the MIDI keyboard from Sibelius, and had purchased the VDL last Christmas, not understanding that it can'd do anything alone. (Dumb, I know, but sometimes we learn best from our mistakes!)

Question is, does the ORDER the programs are installed matter at all?  Do we have to uninstall VDL (sitting there on the hard drive unused since last Christmas) before installing the new Sibelius 5.2 we just got for his birthday?  Or can we just install Sibelius now, wait for this patch/change whatever that's coming, then start learning how to incorporate the two programs...

SO GLAD you have this forum!

Bandmom - Thanks for your patience! To answer your question, no - the order in which the programs are installed should not matter. It should be safe to go ahead and install Sibelius now. Also, on the Sibelius disk, you can install ";Essentials"; which is the included library of sounds that comes with Sibelius. Once you've done so, you should be able to see ";Kontakt Player 2"; from within Sibelius's ";Playback Configuration"; window. This is essentially the ";plug-in"; version of the Kontakt Player (which is where the VDL sounds will load). If you haven't already, the tutorial videos for the Sibelius template should be helpful in getting you started with the basics of how all this interacts together.

The 5.1 videos (process will be very similar with 5.2) are at:

Hello again,
I am running MAC OSX Leopard.  I read in the box to go to the site and download the installer, i did and started it up.  It then asks for my serial number found in the DVD box, i searched and all i have is the DVD, Users guide, and the 2 white slips of paper.  Am i missing something or not looking in the right place?  I just received the package today.

Thanks

Andy
Your serial number should appear on a sticker inside the plastic DVD case that your VDL disk came in. Are you not seeing it there?
I checked again, it doesn't seem that there was ever a sticker on the inside, the plastic isn't sticky and its all clean.
