Computer can't find soundset under payback devices

I downloaded the VDL template and SoundSet 5.2.xml onto my Mac, placed it into a sounds folder under Sibelius 5 in my computer, but when I go to find it under soundset next to Kontaktplayer2 in the Playback Devices screen It's NOT there, only Sibelius essentials... Any help?
It sounds like you may not have put the xml file in the correct place exactly. Also, be sure you do this when Sibelius is not running. From the ReadMe, here are the exact locations the xml file should go. If you put it anywhere else, it probably won't show up.
Mac OS X: /Users/your username/Library/Application Support/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 5/Sounds
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sounds or C:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sounds
I did everything you told me to but it still isn't there. When I click on VDL SoundSet 5.2.xml the computer says ";This is not a MusicXML file and can not be loaded";
Thanks for the help. But do you any other advice/help? It's just very confusing to me why it's not there

You shouldn't be doing anything with the XML file other than placing it in the designated location. Once it's there, you should not have to interact with that file any more.
If you aren't seeing this sound set as an option when you go into Sibelius's ";playback devices"; window, I wonder if you're not using Sibelius 5.2. The ";VDL Soundset 5.2"; will not work in Sibelius versions prior to 5.2.

Ok so I don't have to press it or anything. I just put it in there. I tried again, it still doesn't work. I checked my Sibelius in ABOUT SIBELIUS and it says i have 5.2.5, the most updated version...It just...doesn't show up....

I'm actually having the same problem, and I'm thankful I found this thread. I just bought VDL 2.5 and Sibelius 5.2... both the most up-to-date versions of the software... and installed them on my new Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. Nothing about the software or hardware should be a problem.
I followed all of the steps in both your video tutorials and the README file. I downloaded the template from Tapspace, and then placed the .xml file into my Sibelius Software > Sibelius 5 > Sounds folder.
When I go to Sibelius, I open Play > Playback Devices, and while I should expect to see Kontakt Player 2 under the available devices, I see nothing. A blank screen.
I didn't click on the .xml file, I didn't do anything but follow very strictly the instructions in the README and video tutorials.
I hope my explanation is clear... I'd really love to begin using the programs as soon as I can.

K.McCoy90 - It sounds like your problem may be slightly different. If you're not seeing any available instance of KontaktPlayer2, it means the VST may not have been installed properly. Sibelius should be referencing its folder of ";VST Plugins"; which is where the KontaktPlayer2.dll file should be living. Once it's there, Sibelius should located upon starting up so you may access it.
One thing to double check in regard to the sound set (the .xml file). You said you placed that file at: Sibelius Software > Sibelius 5 > Sounds folder. Technically, on Vista it's supposed to go at: C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sounds. Maybe that's what you meant, but just thought it was worth mentioning.

Teetamajay, please let me know the exact spot you've placed the xml file. Remember, you have to do this while Sibelius is shut down. You said you put it ";in a Sounds folder under Sibelius 5";, but there are a few different Sibelius 5 folder on your Mac. Be sure you've placed it at: Macintosh HD/Users/your username/Library/Application Support/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 5/Sounds

Thanks for clarifying, Jim. How would I go about moving the Kontakt Player file to its rightful place?
Thanks!
Kyle
And a quick edit: I spent a lot of time reinstalling the programs and searching through files. It seems that Everything downloaded fine. When I go into my Program Files/Sibelius Software/VSTPlugins the KontaktPlayer2.dll is downloaded, along with several other .dll files. Is this correct? Or does it need to be somewhere else? Both VDL and Sibelius installed the KP2, so should I only have one copy? I'm just trying to my own troubleshooting so I don't wind up missing something blatantly obvious.
Thanks, Jim.

To be safe, I would recommend re-downloading the template and sound set. Just in case the file became corrupt or something.
Once you've done that, try placing the xml soundset file at this location instead: Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 5/Sounds
Let us know if that works for you.

Kyle - It sounds like you have KontaktPlayer2.dll in the right place if it's in Sibelius's ";VST Plugins"; folder. If you installed the VDL 2.5.1 update, this will automatically update Kontakt Player 2 to the 2.2.4 version (which is recommended). Whether or not it places the updated 2.2.4 version into this folder though may be another story. I would recommend you run that updater, then do a search for KontaktPlayer2.dll, and check the version numbers of the files found in your search results. If the file in the Sibelius VST Plugins folder isn't updated, make a copy of it and drag it in manually.
This is one of the things about Windows that can be irritating. Each host application often has its own VST folder rather than just relying on one central folder where these updates can be global.
So you're seeing that dll file, but you're not seeing the Kontakt Player 2 VST as an available playback device in the ";Playback Devices"; window in Sibelius? If this is the case, I would recommend you contact the support crew at Sibelius.

I agree. Windows Vista is an exercise in flawed logic. Nevertheless, it is exactly how it sounds like: KP2.dll is in the VSTPlugins folder within Sibelius. And, if it makes any difference, Sibelius also has KP2 within its Sound Essentials Download. So there are two sets of KP2 that are failing to show within Sibelius. I'll contact Sibelius' support center about it. Thanks for your help.
