We have honor band this weekend and one of
the pieces calls for a ";loosing cymbal.";
I've not heard of such.  The piece calling
for that cymbal is ";Puszta,"; by Jan Ver De
Roost.  Anyone know what that is?

I have NO IDEA about that piece. It could it be that Ver De Roost was thinking hi-hat, or something like that but the Dutch/French/German translation was not done correctly? You might try and contact him directly:

I heard from Mr. Van Der Roost himself.
It should have read ";loose cymbal,"; which
he intends as a suspended cymbal.
