Sibelius 6 template

I was wondering if anyone knows if a new template for Sibelius 6 is being worked on or not.  I have ran into a few more bass drum items that do not play.  I did the unison buzz roll, and it doesn't play back.  Similar to the unison LH not playing back.

I know this a lot of hard work to put the template together, but I would be more than willing to give any help that is necessary for creating a Sib 6 template, or a Finale 2010 template (if even possible).

Yes, someone does know if a new Template for Sibelius 6 is being worked on or not.

We are very close to having it done - and this one will be by far the best one yet. Be sure to check out what's new when it is released.

Sib 6 has different default settings for notehead 28, so in the meantime, here's how to fix those issues.

  1. Go to House Styles > Edit Noteheads, scroll down to notehead 28, select it, and click Edit.

  2. Place a check next to Transposes.

  3. Place a check next to Play.

  4. Click OK. Click Close.

Now those notes should playback properly in your score.
Wow, thanks for the response!

I am looking forward to it.

I have one smaller question that I have asked before, but I am not sure if I ever ";understood"; the answer.  Will the Sib 6 template show instruments from the blank score add instrument list, or will we have to open a template then change instruments?  I would like to see VDL 2.5 instruments appear as if I created a new score from launch window (or whatever it is called).

Just my 2 cents, but I will certainly be looking forward to the new template.

Another small error I am hearing in Sib 6 with the 5.2 template that I did not hear in Sib 5.2 is that when you have a forte level passage in the marimba (passage in octaves), if you put the 3 slash tremolo (roll) on some of the notes, the volume drops about half.  I never remember this in 5.2.  I am not sure if you were aware,  just keeping you up to date on what else I am hearing that might need some fixing.

Here's a quick tutorial video on using scores created with the Sib5 VDL templates within Sibelius 6.
Jim or Hugh,

I downloaded the Sib 6 template, and I am very thankful for all the hard work that went into creating such a comprehensive template for users.

However, I have found one error that still seems to exist.  Why does the quad parts notate rests improperly?  More specifically the half rest and the eighth rest.  Is there a way to fix this?  While I am sure it is not noticeable to high school students, it is very noticeable to me.

Thanks for your comments Robby. I agree, this is distracting, and I can't seem to figure out why it's happening. In looking into it, I did notice that Sibelius's stock ";Marching Tenor Drums"; instrument also displays whole/bar rests down a space while it places 8th and quarter rests up a space. The ";rest placement"; settings in the staff type editor do affect placement, however the relation from 8ths to quarters to half rests doesn't seem proportional in these rare occasions.

If someone smarter than me can figure out a universal fix for this, we'll certainly incorporate it into the template. For now, I'm compelled to think this is some sort of Sibelius bug within certain instruments.

We'll keep fishing, but if anyone has further insight, please let us know. Thanks!
I played around with it for a little while and it definitely seems to be bugged. I managed to fix mine by going into House Style > Edit Instruments, select the instrument that is affected VDL Template 6.0 > Drumline Battery > TenorLine, then select Edit Instrument. Select Edit Staff Type, then select the General tab at the top. Change the number of staff lines to 6, then click Okay, Okay, then Close. Then go back and redo the same process, but change the number of staff lines back to 5. Voila! The rests should be back in their normal spot. You will need to do this for every Tenor instrument as they all seem to be affected.

It seems like maybe at some point something was changed with the Staff Type and it bugged the default position of the rests in Voice 1. Changing the number of barlines, and changing them back seems to reset the rests to where they should be.

Hopefully this will fix yours as well.
Josh - I haven't actually tried this yet, but if this indeed works like you describe, you will officially be my new hero. Kudos on de-wonking the wonkiness you genius, you!
Wow!  This did the trick!  Congrats on figuring this out.  I am not annoyed with the inaccuracy anymore.  Thanks for the efforts!

P.S. - Jim, you should double this guy's salary.  :)
I assume the same procedure will work on the 5.2.5 template as well?

Yes - we've verified this process works in the 5.2.5 template as well!
Since the VDL Template for Sibelius 6 just came out, we just corrected the template file so anyone purchasing the item from today forward will have tenor staves with the rests properly placed.

Anyone who's purchased the template already, and would like to re-download the package (so you'll have this corrected version), feel free to send me a PM and I can arrange to get you the current version. Just let me know your order ID, and we should be able to take care of it.
