We have a separate arranger do the winds charts in sibelius and I do the battery percussion using sibelius/VDL (we also have a separate guy do the pit in sibelius). How do I combine all of these into one file so I can make sure everything lines up and record the playback?

Cut and paste from their score into your score. As far as recording playback, that depends on what version you are using. You can use a 3rd party recorder to record or use the radio button (looks like a CD) in Sibelius to generate a WAV or AIFF file.

You will want to add pit and wind staves with appropriate instruments to your battery score, then copy from the other two scores and paste into your score. It is important to paste into a VDL-template score.

Not necessarily. You can also export the VDL House Styles (staff styles, instrument definitions, etc.) from the Template and import them into the wind score. You'll You can then add your instruments into that score. This is all documented pretty well in both the Sib 5 and 6 VDL Templates Readmes.
So, for future projects, if you already have the wind scores, there's no need to create a separate file for your percussion stuff. Create a master score, whether it before or after the wind music is created, then import your VDL House Styles (via the directions in the Readme) and you'll be able to work with the wind score while composing/arranging.

True. I meant in this particular case is it important to paste into the VDL-template score rather than any of the other two, since there is a choice. It avoids extra work it all.
