Hi all,
I just reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP for a number of reasons. Then I reinstalled Sibelius 5.2 from my DVD and patched it to 5.2.5.
My Sibelius Essentials and VDL 2.5 libraries are on a network drive, and thus were unaffected by my reformat. However, unsurprisingly neither of these libraries shows up in Sibelius right now, not does KP2.
What do I need to do to get these libraries working in Sibelius without reinstalling both of them from disk?
Then, copy the the ";KontaktPlayer2.dll"; from the Kontakt Player VST folder to the Sibelius VST folder.
That should get you back up and running.

Bryan,
Getting back to this topic...
I have a \Program Files\Native Instruments\Kontakt Player 2\VSTPlugins folder, with a ";KontaktPlayer2.dll"; file as you say. However, I have no ";Sibelius VST"; folder. I tried creating one and placing the ";KontaktPlayer2.dll"; file inside of it, then restarting Sibelius, but (not surprisingly) this did not work.
What is the specific location / name of the Sibelius folder in which the KontakPlayer2.dll file should go?

Hmmm... there isn't.
I have a \Program Files\Sibelius Software folder. The only folder inside that is /Sibelius 5.
I tried creating \Program Files\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sibelius VST\KontakPlayer2.dll. I also tried, as you implied, F:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\Sibelius VST\KontakPlayer2.dll. Neither lets me see KP2 as an available playback device in Sibelius.

The folder is actually ";Sibelius Sounds/VSTplugins"; but it seems that's not there either. Try creating a folder with that name, then go into Playback Devices and make sure that Sibelius knows where the VST folder is, or redefine it in the VST settings.

Sorry Bryan, you're still being somewhat ambiguous. I tried the following:
1. F:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sibelius Sounds\VSTplugins\KontakPlayer2.dll (had to create these last two folders)
2. F:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sounds\VSTplugins\KontakPlayer2.dll (only had to create the last folder)
3. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sounds\VSTplugins\KontakPlayer2.dll
4. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sibelius Sounds\VSTplugins\KontakPlayer2.dll
On a whim I also tried all four of the above using ";VSTplugin"; instead of ";VSTplugins";. I am giving up and reinstall from the VDL disk; clearly any time I have saved is wasted at this point anyway.
I'll report back with where things actually wind up...
I haven't reinstalled Sib5, but there is an option (in Playback Devices > Audio Engine Options) for you to tell Sibelius where to find VSTs.
It's been a long day.

Hi Joe,
You may want to get in touch with the technical support folks at Sibelius Software as well. I'm not sure why you wouldn't have a VSTplugins folder for Sibelius since (as far as I'm aware) that's a standard part of the Sibelius installation.
I think you may find your answer by posting on the Sibelius Chat Forum here. You may need to create an account there, but try searching around, and if you don't find anything, there's usually a quick answer around the corner if you post a question.
On the Sibelius forum, I did a quick search there for kontaktplayer2.dll (the name of the VST file), and several results came up. One thing that Daniel (their project manager) mentions is: You should copy KontaktPlayer2.dll into C:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\VSTPlugins if it's not already located there.
Once you've done that, another person suggests: In Sibelius, select: Play/Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options/Rescan. Then Restart Sibelius.

Jim,
Yes, I came to a similar conclusion myself.
Even after reinstalling VDL 2.5 from disk I still initially had problems. I believe that the reason is that I have Sibelius (like most of my programs) installed on my F: drive. By default Sibelius looks for VST files in C:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\VSTPlugins. Apparently it looks there even when you install it to a different drive. So, I changed the location to a spot on my network drive (where my sound libraries are also stored) and put the KontakPlayer2.dll file there, and rescanned. After that I KontakPlayer2 was an available device in Sibelius playback, and I could select on or more instances of KP2 andassign the 5.2.5 soundset to each of them. VDL sounds work fine.
I still don't have an available Essentials soundset, no doubt because I there's no .xml file for one since I didn't install Essentials from disk either (like VDL, the library is on my network drive). I assume I can pull this off of my Sibelius DVD, but I can't find it this evening.
I initially installed my sound libraries on my network drive because I thought it would save some time and trouble if I had to reinstall Windows. If there's one thing this whole exercise has taught me, it's that the whole thing is far more complicated than I had envisioned, and perhaps more trouble than it's worth.
