rim sounds bass drums Sibelius's 6 mac

How can I fix this problem?  I have the new patches and everything installed.

imac OS 10.5.8
Sibelius 6

What exactly is your problem? A more clearly worded explanation would help. Are you saying that all bass drum sounds are playing back as rim sounds instead of drum sounds? Do you actually have the full version of Virtual Drumline installed or are you using the VDL sounds that come with Sibelius 6? If you ARE using the full version of VDL, have your purchased and properly configured the sound set, and are you writing into the Sibelius 6 VDL Template?

With a more clear explanation I think we'll be able to get you on the right track.
>Are you saying that all bass drum sounds are playing back as rim sounds instead of drum sounds?
Yes!
>Do you actually have the full version of Virtual Drumline installed?
As far as I know, Yes.
>Have your purchased and properly configured the sound set, and are you writing into the Sibelius 6 VDL Template?
I have no idea of what your talking about here.  Are you asking if I bought Sibelius 6 VDL Template, then the answer is yes.  Is it installed correctly in my computer?  I have no idea.

Here's the deal.  I got my Sibelius 6.1 update and after I installed it I pulled up some of my old marching band files to play them back to make sure everything was working.  While I was listening I heard the bass drum line sounded like five humans playing five different pitched bass drums.  Up until this point, all I've been getting is this slapping sound as if they are playing on rims or slapping the drum with their bare hands.  Well, after listening to a couple of arrangements with the real bass sound, I went to listen to another and I get the slapping back.

What do I do?
What version of Sibelius were the scores that you tried to play back written with?

When you purchased the Sibelius template, there is an XML file that needs to be copied over to your Sounds folder for Sibelius.  Without that file, you won't get proper playback.  A quick way to check to see if you've done that is to open Sibelius 6.1, click on Play, then Playback Devices.  Take a look at the Active Devices window, you'll see a little pull down menu.  See if Sibelius Soundset 6.0 is an option there.  If it is, make sure that it is selected otherwise your sounds won't load correctly.

Sibelius Soundset 6.0?  That's not even an option in my 'Available Devises' window.  Where is Sibelius Soundset 6.0?  And why would it be 6.0 if I'm using 6.1?
As Bill said, your Template ZIP file came with a few files:

-the .sib file
-the Readme.pdf
-and the .xml file

The sound set needs to be copied to your [Your username]/Library/Application Support/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 6/Sounds folder.  You might have to create the Sounds folder, as it is normally not there by default. If you would have taken the time to read the Readme that came with your template, you would have noticed that.

The template is what you should use as a starting point, as that is what contains all of the instrument definitions.

As for the 6.1 vs. 6.0 issue, the 6.0 template/sound set was created to work with all version of Sibelius 6, regardless of the subversion number. If any issues arise, I'm sure a new version will be released. Try looking through your VDL documentation and you might find your own answers, rather than having to ask
Thank you guys for your help.  I do appreciate you guys taking your time to help me with this problem.  Even after all of this the problem is still there, but, thank you for your efforts.
In Playback Devices, there should be a ";Kontakt Player 2"; option (both AU and VST).  You should select that and click activate.  Once that's active, you should have a pull down option where you can check to see if you have properly installed the sound set.

If you follow the steps I outlined in my last message, you should be fine.  I understand this can be pretty frustrating at first, but once you get it set up, you'll be prettyu happy with the results.
dgcool - take some time to carefully read through the steps Bryan listed for you. It sounds like you're probably just a bit new to some of the terminology with this stuff, so some studying will come in handy.

As he mentioned, all the information you need is in the ReadMe file. If you'd rather not read, there are some introductory videos for using VDL with Sibelius here. Even though they're for Sibelius 5.2.5, the same concepts apply for Sibelius 6.

Keep in mind, you won't necessarily become proficient at using these tools until you take some time to learn the various aspects of how they work. The info is there, so use it to your benefit. If you find that you're still stuck, posting here is fine, but I'd recommend you clearly state what you've done, in addition to the specifics of your system. Doing this will help people offer valid suggestions. If you don't provide specific information about your system and (specifically) you've done, all others can do is guess.
