Two sus. cymbal questions.

K, question 1.

I want a smooth playback of a 4 bar sus. cymbal roll crescendo from p to ff.  I have done my research on using the plug in and everything to get that, the only problem is none of the cymbal sounds are playing correctly.  It restarts the sound on every measure and only gets slightly louder.  Should I use the sustain roll button on every measure of the 4 bar phrase?  Because it seems that just makes it start over again and I get no sounds at all.  And what sound should I use on the release note?  It sounds out of place when I use the loud hit with mallet.

Second question:

So I have a part where I need the sus. cymbal to play on the downbeat with the marimba coming in one beat later (accent effect back to the melody).  The only problem is I am not getting cymbal playback or the correct notehead input on the cymbal beat.  I've done the instrument change and everything to it to no avail.  Please help.
Give us a hint which program you are using with your VDL

so after 115 views no one knows how to do this?  I find that hard to believe.

Sorry, I would've answered buy I was on my honeymoon.

1) What most people using Sibelius do in this situation is simply use the long crescendo cymbal swell and use the Live Start Position feature in the playback area to make it so the peak of the swell is at the desired place, using a negative or positive number for an earlier or later release, respectively.  In that case, you would simply use the same note at the release note, not a cymbal hit of any sort.

2) That's one little quirk in Sibelius that has always ben there, and will hopefully find its way out of future releases.  One work around is to insert the cymbal instrument change and nudge it slightly to the left of the barline.  The only problem is you won't be able to get back to the marimba noteheads immediately following that, due to the fact that instrument changes (with regards to noteheads) are effective on a measure by measure basis.  Again, something that will hopefully be addressed in future releases of Sibelius.

Hope that helps!
Since this is an ultra long roll, another method you might try is to use the sustained cymbal roll. Start the roll at the velocity at which you want it to end. Then, using the expression controller, you can essentially slowly turn up the volume of that sound over time. Just use the Sibelius cresc/dim plugin, and ensure it's set to use expression (continuous controller 11) rather than volume (CC 7).
