After hearing really cool sound clips i decided to buy vdl to bring what i have written to life. Ordered it and got it going on my macbook pro or so i thought... it seemed like it took me about 4 hours to get this thing working right.
finally i got it going but my laptop died and i got a new computer this time a windows one.
Got sibelius installed and then VDL. I had to buy them template AGAIN because it wouldn't let me download it again so i hope tapspace enjoys their free money. VDL and Kontakt are all registered. I updated VDL. Installed the file from the template and now sibelius doesn't show kontakt player in the active devices..
someone please help. Im so damn frustrated with these programs. After paying this much money you'd think it would work better.
Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear it's not all working for you yet! I'm pretty sure that's happened to us all at some point. You'll find this forum WAY more civil than others, you'll get a lot better reception from fellow forum users without the sarcasm.
I can imagine your frustration, but I don't think you ever said what was actually wrong. ";It's not working"; doesn't give us much to go on:)
Check out the Forum Guidelines in the first page of the Forum, that will give you a better idea on how to voice your question. However one of the main points made is to search first. Trust me, SOMEBODY has had your exact same problem and the answer is most likely already here:)

Hi Daniel.
To second Ralph's sentiments, welcome to the forum!
One key step you're probably missing (that is documented in the copiously detailed VDL Manual) is the fact that on your previous machine (a Mac) you didn't have to do anything to get Sibelius to see Kontakt Player 2 or Kontakt 2, depending on which you plan on using. Plugins (VSTs and Audio Units) are handled differently on Macs than Windows PCs, so you generally don't have to do anything beyond the initial installation to get your audio programs tot see your plugins. On a Windows machine, you're typically going to have to copy a .dll file to the correct VST folder. As it states in the VDL Manual, you'll need to copy the KontaktPlayer2.dll and Kontakt2.dll files from the following places:
C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Kontakt Player 2 C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Kontakt 2
The next time Sibelius is started after that, you'll be able to see Kontakt and Kontakt Player 2 in your list of available devices. You'll also want to watch these tutorial videos to help get you up and running. They are geared towards Sibelius 5.2.5, but the core concepts are the same.
Also, it won't be impossible to get your old scores to work with VDL, but generally it's best to use the VDL template as your starting point for your scores. You can however, import your VDL Template instruments into your old scores as I detailed in this post and work on getting them updated with VDL sounds that way.
As far as your template goes, it tells you in the original purchase that you will only be able to download it a limited number of times for the first 72 hours after purchasing, so most people back that file up somewhere (maybe numerous places) to ensure that it doesn't get misplaced. Had you contacted their office, they might have been willing to help you out, if you could've verified your original order. Also, as Ralph mention, this forum tends to stay pretty cordial, so a little congeniality will go a long way.
In a nutshell, it sounds like you need to spend some time reading the manuals that come with Sibelius, VDL, and the VDL Template. It's funny that you mention expecting everything to just work after spending so much money. In the pro audio world, things tend to get more and more complicated as they get more expensive. However, I think you'll find that with a little patience you'll be able to get everything running pretty smoothly.
One last thing (wow, I felt like Steve Jobs for a sec): Jim, will VDL 2.5.2 work with the latest update of Kontakt 2? I don't have it installed so I can't verify whether it does or not.

Indeed. The VDL 2.5.2 Library update is compatible with the latest version of Kontakt 2, as well as Kontakt 3 and Kontakt 4. Not to be confused with Kontakt Player 2.2.4 (which it's also compatible with).
Daniel - be sure to carefully read Bryan's description about the differences between Macs and PC's in regard to proper plugin placement. That's one area where the PC will force an extra hoop for you to jump through. Once you've done that, you should be good to go.
And to reiterate, be sure to back up any files that you download from the webstore so you won't feel the need to purchase them again. If you'd like to contact Tapspace directly to explain your situation, you'll find us to be reasonable and willing to help. We run an honest business and aren't trying to steal anyone's money. The email address is info@tapspace.com.
Cheers!

If your playback is a little choppy, it may have to do with your soundcard. Most PC's don't ship with very high quality audio interfaces for pro audio stuff like you're trying to do.
In Sibelius 6, you can adjust your latency settings in the Audio Engine Options (accessible via the Playback Devices window). Ideally, you'd be using an ASIO driver, and you may want to fiddle with increasing (or possibly decreasing) the buffer size which will affect the latency setting.

I also seem to recall getting the memory locking message if I had Kontakt open in standalone mode while running it as a plugin in Finale or Sibelius. Are you doing tbs by any chance? That tends to happen if Kontakt is competing for resources in multiple applications.
