Using iPad an an external monitor

While I don't have an iPad, I know some of you fine folks on here must. Just wanted to share this little article from Daniel Spreadbury at Sibelius.

Yeah, the iPad is probably my favorite purchase I've made in years.  It's a different thing altogether- more for ";consumption"; than ";production"; but you can be creative with it in other ways.  I've learned how to use it as a wireless MIDI controller (definitely NOT easy to set up yet) and there are some good music apps.

The Air Display is worth the $10.  There's a tiny little lag with the mouse, but you can also still use your finger.  Here's the coolest part- you can carry the iPad off and still use whatever desktop/laptop program you've dragged to it.

My youngest could navigate the UI, fingerpaint, play games, etc. before he was 2 years old- it's that easy.  The battery life is awesome too- typically 12-14 hours for me.  I connect it via bluetooth to our home stereo and jam on the drum apps.  Holding the 10"; looks ";bigger"; than a large LCD TV across the room, and streams netflix... I could go on and on.
On a slightly related note, I grabbed the Air Display one day last week and started thinking about iPad stands.  The cheapest ones I've seen run about $30.  Then I thought about a plate stand (link below)which you can get at Wal-Mart for 3.50.  Does the job well.  Holds in both landscape and portrait, even in the case I have mine in.

...AND it'll match your Victorian and Rococo Era decor in your home :)

The ingenuity of the people on this forum never ceases to amaze me. Perhaps it's all because we're penny-pinching DIY'ers!

For 3.50 I'll suffer the clashing decor.  :)
