Drumline Keymap Questions

I am just starting out using VDL and got everything installed alright but I'm having problems figuring out exactly how to manipulate every sound from the music staff in sibelius judging by what sounds are given on the keymap in the user guide for an instrument.  Like for a snare, the keymap shows that there are some rolls and crescendos, etc. that are located on the higher keys of the keymap.  Now how exactly am I supposed to use those sounds in Sibelius 6?  I attempt to put a note on the staff where the keymap says the sound is but no noise is made.  I'm guessing its some simple solution that seems to just be eluding me at this time but I would love to know.
Which sounds were you trying to put in? Have you added the proper notehead/articulation?
I wanted sounds such as a cymbal choke or a snare rim shot or snare on the rim.  I was wondering if there was a specific notehead that had to be inputted and I tried various ones.  I found that the x head for snare made kind of a rim noise on some of the lines but I wasn't sure if there was a better noise for it.  Is there some help somewhere that explains which noteheads and articulations you have to use in order to get certain sounds?
Sounds to me like you need to watch these videos. After that you shouldn't have too many issues using the VDL template that was made for Sib 6.
