Sus. Cym sound with marimba

hey guys.. I was just wondering how I get a suspended cymbal sound using the marimba rosewood hard...
What software are you using? And are you using the appropriate template that goes with it?

More information would be helpful.
sry... i forgot to mention that... Sibelius 6 with VDL 2.5 on a mac using snow leopard.
yes sir
Read page 17 of the Readme pdf file and let us know if that explains it for you.
i tried using the sus. cymbal instrument and copied the marimba parts into the staff... but i cant hear any of the melodic notes... is that how that is suppose to work?
You need to do an instrument change. Select the bar you want to do it in, go to Create > Other > Instrument Change (shortcut: Ctrl+Shft+Alt+I (on PC)). From there you can manually drag the instrument change marker around to where you need it.

For more on instrument changes, do a search in your Sibelius Reference. It's been a while since I've seen it here, but you may be able to find something on this forum as well.

Remember that the Template Readme does not cover very much of the functionality that Sibelius offers. You may need to spend some more time in the Sibelius documentation to familiarize yourself with a few more things that you'll need to know. Spend a few minutes and jot down some of the various terms that may be relevant to you and let your pdf reader find the text for you. (Or, you could go ahead and take a couple of hours or so and read all seven hundred thirty some pages of it. :))

Anyway, once you have spent the appropriate amount of time overcoming your learning curve, I believe that it will have not been a waste of time.

great thank you! i have one more question though.. i got it to work but the cymbal rolls tend to play longer than what is written.. any way to fix that?
You'll need to experiment with where they start. From there you can put the ";playback"; part in say, layer 2, then hide those notes. And then use layer 1 to show to your performers what they should be playing. Use the Playback tab of the Properties palette, while the notes in layer 1 are selected, and uncheck whatever Play On Pass boxes you don't want to hear them playback on.

Again, you may be able to find a couple more examples of this technique by searching this forum.
I tend to use the Live Start Position checkbox in Properties, rather than do separate layers. I find it way less complicated, and easier to experiment to find the correct starting position in relation to what I have notated for the player.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Matt, I momentarily forgot about that, again.
