Kontakt 5 is not compatible with Sibelius 7 yet. The latest information that I got from Native Instruments, and Mr. Casella, is that you need to run Kontakt 4.2.4. What I can tell you is that with Kontakt 4.2.4 and Sibelius 7 it will not run the VST plug-in when trying to set up your sound set, at least on my computer. Hope this helps.

Jordan - Until the incompatibilities between Sibelius 7 and Kontakt 5 are ironed out, it's recommended that you use Kontakt 4 instead. If you need help with this, please submit a support ticket with Tapspace and we'll help get you going.

Do you not have the VDL sound set as a choice in the KP4 Active Devices drop down list?

Yes, it is present in the KP4 drop down list. Somehow today when I loaded the Sibelius files some of the sounds started to play (I now have a suspended cymbal, snare, toms and concert bass). Not really sure what is happening with it now, I am sure it is something I am doing, or not doing.

I currently have Kontakt Player 2 (I guess...). What do I need to do to upgrade to Kontakt 4? The NI website is pushing Kontakt 5 on me. I don't see a way to upgrade to just 4.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hi Eric,
The K4 installers are no longer publicly available from NI, but should be able to get you set up behind the scenes. Fill out a support ticket and we'll get you on your way.

I'm guessing that during Sibelius' start up you're seeing the program load the sounds. This is a designed Sibelius function when you don't have Preferences set to load a specific Playback Configuration at software launch and will otherwise load the last one that was used. Also, the configuration getting loaded was saved with patches in it.
By default I like to have a custom configuration that does not have any playback devices instantiated.
Installed KP5 but can't locate the VST plugins to copy over to Sibelius 7...?

And as a result, the VDL sound set doesn't show on the drop down list.

Chris - the VST Plugin and the sound set are two different things. When installing Kontakt 5, if you elected to install the VST plugin, you'll need to locate that file. Do a search for Kontakt 5.dll.
The sound sets are .xml files that came with your template. Check the information from The Write Score for instructions on where sound sets should be placed.

Placed the sound sets for the template as notated by Write Score. Searched for Kontakt5.dll and no luck. Humbug...

Chris, what operation system are you running Sibelius 7 on?

The Kontakt 5 DLL file is usually located in your program files folder under Native Instruments>VSTPlugins. If you're searching, perhaps try it with a space (Kontakt 5.dll).
If it's not there, it's possible you didn't install the VST plugin when you ran the Kontakt 5 installer. Rerun the installer and leave things set to their defaults, and it should be there.
Once you've located the Kontakt 5.dll file, you'll need to copy it to the folder where Sibelius 7 wants to find it. This is only necessary if you're using Windows. Copy that .dll file to C:>Programs>Sibelius Software>VST Plugins and you should be all set.
