I can open old sib files created with Sibelius 6 and see my vdl 2.5 available in ";instruments";, however when I open the Sibelius 7.1 template, I don't see vdl 2.5 available in instruments. I really would like to get the best of both worlds-sib 7.1 and vdl 2.5 simultaneously. Am I missing something, maybe something not placed in the right sounds folder or something? Thanks
I have the sib 7.1 template from you. Do in need both?

There are two templates you could be referring to, VDL Template 7.0 and S7S Template 7.1. These are not the same templates. And based on your first post, I'm guessing that you have the S7S template.
If you want to have the ";best of both worlds";, you'll need to have both templates. Once you order the one you don't have, follow the instructions in Appendix D to merge them together into one sib file. (Be sure to read all the way through the post-merge checklist for and alternative to doing the merge yourself.)
Let me know if that doesn't answer your questions.

Rather than create a new thread, thought I would use ablemusic's.
Trying to get VDL 2.5.2 to run on Sibelius 7.1 and I'm having no luck. Jim helped me to get the .nki file into Kontakt 5, however, when I open the VDL template in Sibelius and go Play>Setup>Playback Devices, the only Available device listed is the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth, and the only Active device is the Sibelius Player on Sibelius 7 Sounds.
Kontakt is not there.
What did I miss?
Any help is greatly appreciated..

If you are in 64-bit mode of Sibelius 7, you will not see the 32-bit plugins. So make sure you installed both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Kontakt 5. You may also need to tell Sibelius where you have your VST plugins stored, which is in the ";audio engine"; menu. For me it's c:/program files/vstplugins for the 64-bit and c:/program files (x86)/vstplugins for the 32-bit. Yours may be in a different folder, depending on what you have installed.

Also, once you've located the Kontakt 5 VST file (this is the file with the .dll suffix, where Sibelius is looking for it), if there's a space in the file name between the ";Kontakt"; and the ";5,"; try removing that space, then restarting Sibelius and checking again. I've heard this can sometimes have an impact on whether Sibelius or Finale will properly locate the VST.

Ok, I think I got it up and running. I'm gonna go try a bunch of different instruments just to make sure. The giveaway is I can hear six basses now. :]
