During the 2012 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to collaborate with a team of local Pittsburgh former drumline drummers/instructors to create a ";trial"; Pittsburgh Steelers team entertainment drumline! This drumline is a corps-style group. There are over a dozen other lines like the one we are trying to start associated with different NFL teams, and it's about time Pittsburgh had a team drumline!
While not officially sponsored by the team yet, this group will serve as a ";prototype"; to see if there is enough of a positive response from fans, ownership, and players to lead to the creation of an OFFICIAL Pittsburgh Steelers drumline to become an integral role in team entertainment in the future. The Steelers are optimistic about continuing to increase our role and visibility over time. The first step in this process is creating a drumline, performing at our first game, and seeing how it goes! In collaboration with the Pittsburgh Steelers Marketing Department, we have been assigned to perform at the Steelers final pre-season game on Thursday, August 30th, 2012. We will be playing as a drumline in-game, on the field at Heinz Field, as well as in the tailgate area before/after the game! If this goes well, it will lead to bigger and better things!
To prepare for this first game, we will be holding open auditions on Wednesday August 8th, 2012 from 7:00 to 10:00 PM at North Allegheny High School just outside of Pittsburgh. These auditions are open to anyone age 21 and older, and spots are available for all traditional drumline instruments, including snare, tenors, bass, and cymbals. In addition to this audition, members selected will be asked to attend rehearsals on August 15, 22, 27, and 29...also at North Allegheny High School, from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. Audition music is available at the following website, http://www.dustinlowes.com/steeline/auditions.html, and any additional questions should be directed to PittsburghSteeline@gmail.com.
