another issue with Instrument changes

Hello everyone,

Its been a while since my last issue, I am currently composing the 2nd mvt. for my highschool indoor drumline show and I have several instrument changes.  Everything was going fine, until I decided to add a doumbek on the Rack Combo A staff.  Here is what I am working with:

Mac OS X, version 10.8.2
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Sibelius 7.1
VDL 2.5.5
VDL template 7.0a
Kontakt player 5
Korg Microkey

The score includes:
Snare
tenor
Basses
Glock
Xlyo
2 marimbas (4 staffs for theses to have treble and bass parts)
2 vibes
Rack combo A
Rack Combo B

The issue I am having is my Rack combo A staff goes through several instrument changes.  It starts off with the default staff (combo A), changes to Ratchet, back to combo A, back to ratchet, back to combo A and then I would like to go to Doumbek.

I have 4 instances of Kontakt player available.  One is completely filled and the second instance has only 4 nki files attached to it. instance 3 and 4 are empty still.  I hope this makes sense and I would be greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Keith
When you added the doumbek, are you certain it was the VDL Doumbek in your Write Score template?

Are you saying that your doumbek never loaded?
Hi Jim,

thanks for replying.  I am absolutely certain that it was the VDL doumbek that I added and the doumbek would load, it just wouldn't play back.

Thanks,

Keith
Hmm, I'm not exactly sure what might be going on with your Sibelius file. You might find the guys from The Write Score might have some suggestions on why that particular instrument might not be loading. You obviously have enough instances of Kontakt available.

Are you certain the sound set that's assigned in your playback configuration corresponds to the template file from which you started this score?
Yeah I'm pretty sure I am using the correct sound set.

Writescore template, VDL7.0a
VDL 2.5.5
Keith, can you send me the file in question? (Sent you a PM.)

Also, please attach a screen shot of your Playback Configuration so I can try to duplicate the environment.

Hi Hugh,

Thanks for contacting me about this issue.  I am sorry it has taken me a bit to get back to you, I have been having some issues logging into the forum area.  I would greatly appreciate your help with this particular problem.  I will certainly send you the files and I received your (PM).  I will send them to you when I get home from work.

Thanks,

Keith
Hi Keith

I looked at the information you sent me. It appears the problem lies in the sound set you've selected in your Playback Configuration. Please see the attached image. (Review page 7 of the Readme for more.)

If you do happen to encounter issues after swapping sound sets, please let me know and we'll go from there.

Hugh
Hey Hugh,

Thanks a lot for taking a look at it for me.  I really appreciate it.  I'll take a look at switching the sounds sets and I'll let you know as soon as I can.

Thanks,

Keith
Hi Hugh,

So, I took a look my Sound set and I went to change it to the ";VDL Soundset 7.0a";.  However, it does not show up in the drop down list for the Sound set options.  I've found the VDL Soundset_7.0a_xml file and I tried following the example on the Readme file, page 6 though I still can't get it to show up.  Am I doing something wrong?  Again, thanks for the help.

Keith
Hi Keith

On your Mac, were you able to place it in /Users/your username/Library/Application Support/Avid/Sibelius 7/Sounds?

If Sibelius was open when placing it there, you'll need to restart it so the sound set will be loaded.

Hugh
And if you're on Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8 ), you may not initially see the ";Library"; folder that Hugh mentions. To get into the Library folder, start from the Finter, then hold down the option key while clicking the ";Go"; menu. The user ";Library"; folder will only appear here if you're holding down the option key.

Alternately, you could place the xml sound set file in a global folder. Doing this would make it accessible to any other user accounts on your machine. Here's the path to that folder:

Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Avid/Sibelius 7/Sounds

If you opt to do this, and don't see the Sounds folder, you can simply create a new folder there, name it Sounds, then place the xml file into it.
Hey,

Thanks for the help. I have successfully loaded the soundset into sibelius and everything is ok now.

Thanks,

Keith
Outstanding!

And thanks for letting us know.
