So recently the right hand/left hand playback hasn't been working properly.  I use the VDL Template 7.0a for Sibelius 7 from The Write Score, load the manual sound sets, and then pray it works.  It's inconsistent, sometimes I can get the r.h./l.h. playback in one section but not the other.  Other times the different hand sounds will play back through part of the piece, and then stop, at which point all notes playback as a right hand sound.  Thanks to anyone who can help.

Have you double checked which noteheads have been entered into these parts? If you ever do copying and pasting, it's not uncommon to end up with RH note heads in places where LH stickings have been entered.

Also, there are not separate sound sets for manual instruments, so I'm not sure if that's what you really meant.
