My friend emailed me a Finale file of some drum music that he wrote. He has Finale 2009 without VDL. He emailed it to me (I have Finale 2012 and VDL 2.5.5). When I open his file, it plays the stock, super nasty Finale battery sounds.

My question is how do I apply VDL to this ";already-written"; file? Is that possible?

Also: we are planning on writing a winter show together and he will be writing the front ensemble parts and then sending it to me to add the battery parts so I REALLY need to know how to do this. Cause once he sends me the front ensemble file, I want to switch it all over to the VDL sounds.

I think your best bet will be to obtain a Finale 2012 template from The Write Score ([url=http://www.thewritescore.com]www.thewritescore.com[/url]) and import your friend's pit score into that. The pitched percussion sounds should transfer just fine, but the unpitched percussion sounds he wrote would need to be redone using the instrument-specific mappings included with the template.

Hope would I import it. I already have thewritescore templates from already having VDL.

Set up the template file with the staves from the original file and then copy/paste the music over.
