I have the latest MAC OSX update (yosemite). I know that's probably the problem :( New computer....
I downloaded Kontakt player 5, added the VDL 2.5 Library, and I don't hear any sounds when I load a file. Havne't even made it to finale. Just no sound when trying to play a file through Kontakt player, even though the library is loaded AND registered. I've been using VDL since VDL 1 and feel like I have a decent idea of how this should all work. Am I missing something obvious?
I'm also trying to get Kontakt to play nice with Finale 2014...
Other specs....3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5/8GB Memory
I swear I would pay good money to have someone set this stuff up while I go outside and cry.
Also...when I click the keyboard in Kontakt player to make sounds, everything appears as if it is making sound, but I don't hear anything...if that makes sense.

Ok, nevermind all that, I got that problem solved. For some reason my audio output for contact was set for Airplay instead of internal output. Now I hear sounds in Kontakt player.
However, now when I try to open up a VDL template in Finale, I get a message that says...
Kontakt 5 Loading instruments has failed, as the library ";Virtual Drumline"; is not installed on this computer.
I have certainly added the library to Kontakt player and Activated it via the service center. Although, I have noticed that overtime I open Kontakt player, VDL isn't automatically loaded. I wonder if that is the issue.

When you added the Virtual Drumline library to Kontakt 5, were you doing it from an Administrator account?
When you say ";Virtual Drumline isn't automatically loaded"; to you mean you don't see the library in the Kontakt browser (the left column area), or you don't see any instruments populating the rack? If you could send a screenshot of this, it might help.

Yes, it was an administrator account.
I mean when I open up Kontakt player, I don't see VDL there. I have to ";add library"; (then enter my administrator password) to get it there. If I close Kontakt out and reopen it, I have to add it again and then also use the password. I've only had to activate it once, though. I'm wondering if that's where the problem is.

That's definitely odd behavior! When you're doing this, are you doing it in standalone mode, or are you doing it in a hosted instance of Kontakt (i.e. running within Finale)?
Also, what exact version of Kontakt are you using?

Standalone mode. I'm running Kontakt player 5.5.0

That's really strange. Kontakt 5.5 just came out a couple days ago, so I'm wondering if that's the issue.
I really appreciate your help on this, Jim! I know this problem really isn't a VDL problem, and more of a Kontakt player problem, so thank you very much.
This may be really stupid, but I figured out the problem. I had the VDL sounds installed on an external hard drive.
Like I said, I've used VDL 1, 2, 2.5, and now 2.5.5 on 3 (hopefully now 4) different computers. I've always experienced a little lag/delay/slow loading times when arranging large, full marching band files. This was usually remedied by stopping and restarting playback, but it was always a nuisance. With my workload growing more and more each year, I figured it was time to buy a more powerful computer.
I did some 'research' (googling) and came to the conclusion that things may run faster if you have your sample libraries on a different hard drive than finale. I might be really dumb coming to that conclusion, I'm by no means an expert on any of this, except I do have a lot of experience getting VDL to work correctly.
SO, I moved VDL from the external hard drive to my computer's hard drive, and things magically worked correctly. I will probably never understand why, but that's what happened.
Anyway, I'm also making the switch from Sibelius to Finale, so I'm sure I'll have tons more issues ahead I'll have to figure out.

Thanks for letting me know what you discovered, and more importantly, I'm glad to hear you're back on track!
Actually, running VDL from an external hard drive isn't a bad idea, but unless space is an issue, it may not be entirely necessary. Especially if you're running a newer machine with an SSD (rather than a traditional, spinning hard drive).
My guess is that if you were getting that error message, either your external drive wasn't connected, or perhaps the files had been moved around, or maybe the drive itself (or some folders) were renamed. Those can all cause issues with Kontakt locating your library.
