Kontakt troubles :(

Hey everybody,

I'm having an issue with Kontakt. Whenever I open Finale with kontakt or open Kontakt in stand alone mode a dialog box opens saying ";importing kontakt player 5 factory setting"; and then the program goes unresponsive.

I'm not really sure what happened. Everything was working great and then kontakt stopped working. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

Any help would be AMAZING!!!!

Macbook pro Mid 2015
Finale 2014 2014.4.5545
Kontakt 5.5.0.409
Hmm. I'm not sure. I would definitely recommend contacting Native Instruments support about this as it sounds like something to do with Kontakt itself. Be sure to have the exact wording of the error you're receiving. Sometimes, just googling the exact error text can give you a few ideas.

If you learn anything about what's causing this, please let us know. Good luck!
Did you happen to recently upgrade to Mac OS X 10.11 beta? If so, I just did the same thing and Kontakt kept crashing when loading VDL. What you can do though, is set up a new sound configuration and use Kontakt as an AU instead of a VST.

Hope this helps
I've submitted a ticket to Native a week ago and no answer yet. I've also tried calling their support and main line with no luck getting someone to answer :(
Keep trying with Native Instruments. They're a pretty big company and may have a slower response time - I'm not sure.

In the meantime, did you read the previous message? What operating system are you using?
Got a response and it worked!!!

Thanks guys for the suggestions!

Hello Richard LeGerrette,

Please close Kontakt 5 and try reseting the database.

To reset Kontakt's database information to its default library and user paths
please do the following:

To enable hidden folders on Windows 7 read this:

http://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/knowledge-base/show/808/how-to-
enable-the-view-of-hidden-files-and-folders-on-
windows-systems/

For Windows 8/8.1:

1 Press the Windows+S key combination to open the Search۝ box.
2 Type folder into the Search box, then select Folder Options from the list
of search results. The Folder Options۝ window
should open.
3 Select the View tab.
4 Under Advanced Settings۝, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
5 Click Apply, then click Ok.

For PC go to C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Native Instruments\Kontakt 5\Db

For Mac go to Macintosh HD > Users > *your username* > Library > Application
Support > Native Instruments > Kontakt 5 > Db

Note: On newer Mac OS computers where 10.7 or a later version is installed, the
User Library folder is hidden. To access it,
click on the Apple task bar entry named Go and press down the Alt key. The
Library entry will become visible in the drop-down
menu and can now be selected.

NEXT:

Delete the Factory.kdb.cache, kontaktdb2 and kontakdb2Lock

Empty Trash/Recycling Bin

Then restart Kontakt 5.

That's great to hear. Thanks for reporting back with your findings as well. You may have just saved someone some future headaches!
Im glad that my issue helps future problem!

I don't think I'm out of the woods yet though. Now finale isn't locating kontakt.
Check this FAQ and hopefully it'll steer you in the right direction:

Issue finally resolved with Finale. They had me create another user on my Macbook and reinstall Finale. Finale is now recognizing kontakt but since its on a different user VDL isn't showing up. Am I able to move my VDL file to a shared folder?
Yes. You can place your VDL Library folder anywhere you'd like on your computer. Once you've moved it to the location where you'd like to store it, you'll need to launch Kontakt, then tell Kontakt where to locate the library. Do this by clicking the ";Add library"; button.

More importantly, when you install Kontakt, be sure you're installing it for all users of your machine rather than just one user account. Doing this, you should have access to the Kontakt application as well as the plugin within host programs like Finale.
