1) DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL VIRTUAL DRUMLINE 2.5

If you purchased the downloadable* version of Virtual Drumline (VDL), you will use an application called Conduct to download and assemble your library files. This is a utility that will streamline the process of downloading and unpacking of numerous large files required by your library.

  1. Download and install the Conduct downloader application.
  2. Launch Conduct. (If your Mac disallows the program from launching, there is an easy fix in your Security & Privacy System Preferences).
  3. Once Conduct is launched, copy your VDL serial number or download code then click the PASTE DOWNLOAD CODE button. Your product should appear as queued in the list. Simply click the large arrow button at the bottom of the screen to start your download. Your serial number was provided in an email after you purchased it (download) or within the inside DVD case or "Getting Started Guide" (Physical DVD version)
  4. NOTE: Be sure you have at least 11GB of hard drive space to ensure a hassle-free installation.
  5. Several files will begin to download. These files are somewhat large and can take a while to download, depending on the speed and reliability of your internet connection and network settings.
  6. Please be patient while they download. (If you run into any trouble with the Conduct download process, there are some extra topics here.)
  7. When the files have completed downloading, they will automatically assemble themselves into one complete folder.
  8. Once this process is complete, we highly recommend you make a backup so you'll have easy access to reinstall your library in the future.

*If you purchased the physical DVD instead of the download, simply copy your library folder from the DVD to the location on your computer where you'd like to keep the library. If you're unsure, we recommend putting it in your "Documents" folder. Once you've done this, you may move onto the next steps.

*If you purchased the physical DVD a long time ago (before the downloadable option was available), we recommend you obtain a downloadable replacement. We offer this at a reasonable price of $15 which gives you the most up-to-date library version, as well as giving you ongoing access for future downloads an installations.

2) DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL NATIVE ACCESS & KONTAKT PLAYER

Native Access is an application in which you can install, activate, and update any products by Native Instruments (or third party Kontakt Player libraries like Virtual Drumline). It will be required to get up and running. If you already have Native Access, just start the application.

  1. Download Native Access 1 (Mac or Windows) from the Native Instruments website and install it. (Note: Native Access v2 came out in 2022, but since VDL 2.5 is an older product, we still recommend using version 1 for the time being)
  2. Once installed, launch Native Access.
  3. If you have a Native Instruments user account already, log in*. If you don't yet have an Native Instruments account, create one now.
  4. Once logged into Native Access, go to the Not Installed area.
  5. Locate Kontakt 6 Player. (Note: Kontakt 7 Player is now available, however, we recommend Kontakt 6 Player for the time being.)
  6. Click Install and Native Access will automatically download and install Kontakt Player.
  7. Go to the Installed products area and you should now see that Kontakt 6 Player is installed.

Please note that your Native Instruments login info is not necessarily the same as your Tapspace login. These accounts are not tied together.

*(IMPORTANT: If you previously activated a product with an old, outdated email address, DO NOT create a second/new NI account. It will be far simpler to update your existing NI account to your current email address. If you're unsure of which email address may be attributed to your NI account, please contact us so we may quickly assist.)

3a) ADD VDL 2.5 TO YOUR NATIVE INSTRUMENTS ACCOUNT

(new users only)

  1. Launch Native Access and click Add a serial.
  2. Paste in your VDL serial number and click the +Add Serial button. This will register the product to your personal NI account.
  3. Navigate to the library folder (Virtual Drumline 2.5) and click Open. Now click Install which should now be a blue button instead of grey.
  4. Once you have followed these steps the library should now be activated correctly.

3b) INSTALL VIRTUAL DRUMLINE IN NATIVE ACCESS

(only for existing users setting up VDL on a new machine)

  1. In Native Access (version 1 recommended), go to the Not Installed tab (since VDL is already associated with your account, but not yet installed on this computer).
  2. You will be asked to browse to the folder containing the library. First click Browse.
  3. Navigate to the library folder (Virtual Drumline 2.5) and click Open. Now click Install which should now be a blue button instead of grey.
  4. Once you have followed these steps the library should now be activated correctly.
  5. Launch Kontakt to verify that you see Virtual Drumline appearing in the side pane on the left.
